Cutest Dog Breeds
At A Glance
Picking the cutest dog breeds known to mankind is one of the hardest tasks we have ever undertaken. But today, we chose a few favorites. While the list is absolutely subjective, we hope it helps you bring your next pet home.
If you’re a dog lover like us, you’d agree that all dogs are adorable. But, there’s no denying that while some breeds are sporty, others look dapper, and some can melt your heart with their cuteness. Today, we bring to a list of dogs who simply have no comparison when it comes to the cuteness factor.
This list is absolutely subjective and in no way intends to declare other dogs any less cute. However, those listed below have set the aww-worthy bar a little too high for us to ignore.
Yorkshire Terrier
Yorkshire Terrier is one of the cutest dog breeds. With a gorgeous coat of fur that can rival Rapunzel’s hair, the Yorkshire Terrier is a diva of the dog world. At approximately 3-7 lbs, these dogs are as cute as any living being can get!
They also happen to be one of the most sought-after pets in the United States.
Known for unmatched grace and elegance, they’re lively and playful. They’re also a little to no trouble breed — they get along with other pets with ease.
However, as they say, the bigger the head, the heavier the crown. Yorkies require regular grooming and a lot of TLC. Their long and lustrous fur needs daily combing, washes, and timely trims.
They’re also quite small and fragile. So you need to keep an eye out for them, lest they become the favorite toys of bigger dogs in the house and or in the park.
Fun Fact: Did you know that Yorkshire Terriers are often fondly called “Tomboy Toys” because of their spunky and sassy personalities?
Samoyed
Originally bred to hunt, haul sleds, and keep their masters warm in subzero temperatures — the Samoyed is a gracefully handsome breed. They are not only unbelievably cute but also loyal, devoted, and friendly.
The Samoyed’s most distinctive feature is its thick coat of milky white fur. That’s why, while this breed has all the traits that a dog owner may love, it requires intensive care.
Their thick fur coats shed a lot and therefore need regular combing. They also need to be kept active, else they gain weight very fast.
But Samoyeds are exceptionally playful and friendly. If you spot one walking down the road, we bet you won’t be able to stop yourself from sneaking in a few cuddles and pats.
Fun Fact: Did you know that Samoyeds accompanied Fridtjof Nansen, a Norwegian explorer, on his North Pole expedition, as early as in 1893?
Pomeranian
These foxy-faced munchkins can be easily mistaken for stuffed toys when they’re sitting still. Pomeranians weigh around 3-7 lbs and grow no taller than 15-20 inches, but they have a bold personality that outshines their size. They do not think twice before challenging a dog double their size!
But they’re also outgoing and friendly by nature. So, they do well as pets in households with kids. Thanks to their size, Pomeranians are ideal for apartment living.
However, their size does not bode well for them always: they need to be taken care of while outdoors as they can easily get hurt.
Pro Tip: You need to stick to a strict schedule when caring for a Pomeranian. From food to grooming, they need a lot of attention to stay happy and healthy.
Pomsky is the cutest dog breed. These Siberian Husky and Pomeranian hybrids are one of a kind. Playful and energetic, they’re always up to something or the other. Their antics can keep you entertained for hours on end.
While they are very active and friendly, they sometimes can be stubborn, owing to their Husky genes. But at the same time, they’re also highly protective and make exceptional watchdogs.
Even though adaptable by nature, Pomskies are not purebred and tend to suffer from congenital health issues. They are prone to knee problems, allergies, skin problems, etc. and need regular vet visits.
Bichon Frise
Imagine a dog made of marshmallows and there you have it — the Bichon Frise.
These playful, active, and intelligent dogs need constant company and attention from their parents.
There’s no compromising on love and affection when it comes to Bichon Frises. But then they’re so adorable that you cannot deny them the attention they so rightly deserve.
Because of their size and easy going nature, Bichons make good family and apartment pets.
They’re easy to train and bark in moderation, making them ideal pets. However, they do need extra love and care — the breed is prone to allergies and skin problems.
Fun Fact: Back in the 14th century, the Bichon Frise was such a hit with Italian nobility that they had the dogs’ fur groomed to resemble a lion’s.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Did you know Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is one of the cutest dog breeds? Personifying elegance and grace, just like its regal name, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a toy spaniel breed.
At around 13 inches high, they are as cute and compact as it gets. They have an impeccably smooth and shiny coat of fur that needs careful grooming and maintenance.
The breed exudes a royal charm, right from its features to its demeanor. While it might be hard not to pamper this endearing breed, too much of pampering with no physical activity can cause them to gain weight fast.
That said, they do make for great companions and are sure to grab the attention of passers by when the two of you go out for a walk in the park.
Shih Tzu
Last but definitely not least, Shih Tzus are a toy dog breed originating in Asia. Although their origin remains shrouded in mystery, they have always enjoyed unparalleled attention. In fact, back in the day, they were dogs of the royalty.
Even today, they are hardly ever treated like ordinary dogs. You’re most likely to spot them in someone’s arms, in cute fountain ponies, donning the fanciest hair-ties and hair clips.
However, they’re not a high maintenance breed! That, combined with its size and playful nature makes Shih Tzus great apartment pets.
That they love cuddles and naps makes them ideal for dog lovers who prefer affectionate pets. While they are usually healthy, just like other dogs, they are prone to common illnesses like allergies and infections.
