In the 1980s, a breeder named Wally Conron wanted to create a guide dog that would not cause any allergies. After 2 years of trials and errors, Conron tasted success when he bred a Standard Poodle with a Labrador. The Labradoodle was born. It took him more than 30 tries to come up with the first-ever Doodle.

Now there are over 40 Doodles known to us.

Whether you’re looking for a companion, a therapy dog, or a pet for the family, we have listed below the top Doodle breeds for you.

Goldendoodles dog

Goldendoodles

The only Doodle that has all the good qualities of both its parents is the Goldendoodle. They’re one of the top doodle dog breeds. Also fondly called a Groodle, a Goldendoodle, as you might have guessed, is a mix between a Golden Retriever and Poodle.

They are excellent for homes with children and other animals. They are fiercely loyal and loving – but most of all, they love to please others.

That’s why they’re extremely easy to train.

Goldendoodles inherit the friendly, affectionate, trusting, and enthusiastic nature of their Golden Retriever parent.

Groodles are highly affectionate and sociable dogs.

Their intelligence, sociability, and trainability come from the Poodle branch of the family.

They are laid-back by nature and very easy to train – an excellent choice for first-time pet owners.

Labradoodles have an amiable disposition and can be trained to be highly sociable.

Aussiedoodles

An Aussiedoodle will always keep you on your toes.

With an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle parent, Aussiedoodles are a highly energetic and extremely playful breed.

While they are a highly intelligent breed that picks up tricks quickly, they can also be stubborn at times.

They also require a fairly good amount of exercise every day.

So if you want a companion for your daily runs or hikes, Aussiedoodles are a great choice for you.

Bernedoodle dog

Bernedoodle

Bernedoodle is one of the top doodle breeds. If you are all about team spirit and loyalty, then a Bernedoodle could be your spirit animal.

Thanks to one of its parents, the Bernese Mountain Dog, the Bernedoodle gets its even-tempered nature and beautiful multicolored coat.

Bernedoodles may be wary of strangers, but they bond well with their families.

In spite of being a very attractive breed, they are not meant for the show ring. Instead, they make companions who will be by your side, come hell or high water.

Training these dogs can be a challenge for first-time owners.

However, their loving personality and playfulness make every effort worth it.

Schnoodle dog

Schnoodle

Lively and charming, Schnoodles are divas sans the attitude, ideal as apartment dogs.

The name and the dog are both quite a handful, in a good way! Bold, intelligent, and attention-loving by nature, Schnoodles have Miniature Schnauzer as one of their parents.

They get along with people, pets, and children with ease. If you want a dog that can do well in an apartment, this is the one for you.

Schnoodles need a fairly constant amount of mental and physical stimulation. They can be your Easter egg hunting buddy or Scrabble partner.

Since they love to please their humans, training them is very easy.

St. Berdoodle

St. Berdoodles are gentle giants with mischievous streaks.

Thanks to the St. Bernard side of the family, St. Berdoodles are big dogs that can weigh up to 180 lbs!

Intelligent and stubborn, they are a breed that loves to play and sleep. They also love attention and do well as family dogs.

Adorable as they are, St. Berdoodles are oblivious of their size. Even a four-month-old pup can weigh between 50-60 lbs.

But do not be surprised if you find them trying to sit on your lap – they are cuddle bugs!

This is one of the rare Doodle breeds that sheds heavily.

Sheepadoodle dog

Sheepadoodle

The most versatile of all Doodles, Sheepadoodles can live outdoors as well as indoors.

They get their rather unique name from their Old English Sheepdog parent but look nothing like sheep.

They are extremely adorable and protective by nature.

An excellent companion for active families that love the outdoors, Sheepadoodles are hypoallergenic dogs.

They hardly shed and need only periodic grooming.

Maltipoo dog

Maltipoo

Maltipoo is one of the top doodle breeds. They’re cute, charming, and charismatic. Maltipoos are one of the most dependable therapy Doodles out there.

Maltipoos are absolute cuddle bugs and highly sensitive to the emotional needs of their parents. That’s why they do well as therapy dogs.

Trust a Maltipoo to cheer you up even on the gloomiest of days – they’re smart as a whip and aim to please.

They are extremely light shedders and do not require intensive grooming.

Because of their size and adaptable nature, Maltipoos make great pets for elderly couples or homes with small children.

Cavapoo dog with a stick in its mouth

Cavapoo

Cavapoos are snuggly couch potatoes with the smarts.

A mix of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle, the Cavapoo is a highly popular breed. They can keep you on your toes with their antics all day but will also snuggle up during movie time.

Cavapoos do not require too much exercise. They are gentle with kids and other pets. But they are prone to getting hurt easily and thus require extra care.

Huskydoodle dog

Huskydoodle

Huskydoodles are unusual-looking dogs with a heart of gold.

The last Doodle on this list has the Poodle and the Siberian Husky as its parents. They have striking features with magnetic blue eyes and a thick coat like their Siberian parent.

But thanks to those Poodle genes, Huskydoodles shed minimally.

They are loving, loyal, and great companion dogs for families. They can weigh between 40-60 pounds and need a heavy to moderate amount of daily exercise.

They’re not the best dogs for the indoor lifestyle.
